The Baby Toon is a safer option for a baby spoon that eliminates the long sharp design of a traditional spoon. The Baby Toon is made out of soft FDA grade silicone with rounded corners and edges (gentle on the baby’s gums 😁). Babies can also teethe on this soft spoon too. The Baby Toon is easy for babies and parents to hold with a short neck that protects babies from choking. The Baby Toon also works great for big sisters or brothers to assist with feedings. The Baby Toon is FUN and educational because it teaches babies colors, shapes, and animals.

Like most great startups, Herbavore grew out of a need—in this case, the need for better and less cumbersome gardening tools. Specifically, tools that would be comfortable for different hand sizes and that could accommodate both left and right-handed individuals. Herbavore’s patent pending tools aim to reshape the garden tool industry.

Prior to working with 3D innovations we didn’t know about the manufacturing aspect of designing. We thought our designs were “ready to go”, but after consulting with them, we realized the designs needed to be modified further to meet manufacturing requirements, especially related to injection molding. While working with 3D innovations we learned more in-depth about the manufacturing process such as over-molding, which types of molds to use for cost effectiveness, and material capabilities.

Having basic sketches in hand, SmileyRides had a vision for what they wanted the product to become.  Taking these initial sketches and producing a more detailed conceptual design, SmileyRides was excited to see the vision come to life.  After the conceptual design phase was completed, the detailed design process began and developed the conceptual design into a fully functional and manufacturable design. Having a functional design allowed SmileyRides to not only visualize, but conduct customer feedback and make the necessary changes to fit the needs of customers.

Using parametric design/engineering software, we were able to create their initial concept and make modifications relatively easy during design review processes.  Once a final design was approved, prototype parts were created using 3D Printing to quickly evaluate the design.  Compared to conventional fabrication/manufacturing methods, the cost of using the 3D Printing process was over 1200% less and was done in 4-5 days compared to 6-8 weeks.  This lower cost solution allowed for multiple prototypes to be produced.

3D Innovations is nothing short of amazing. From my initial consultation of an idea I had in my head and a novice drawing, they were able to bring my idea to reality better than I could have ever hoped for.  3D Innovations is detailed in every aspect, produced everything in a prompt, professional manner, and was extremely knowledgeable about the processes and the products. Honestly, I don’t know how I would have been able to get my business to where it is today without them. They are invaluable to me and answered all my questions no matter how small or how big. 3D Innovations has the connections to get things done and produces top of the line quality in everything they do and is a pleasure to work with.

Using requirements provided by the client, 3D Innovations was able to produce a schematic design to develop the circuit layout and determine Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements and cost. Gerber files were generated and used for the manufacturing process. While 3D Printing circuits was available, the conventional method for fabrication and assembly was used.

Integrating best practices for PCB design, development cost was reduced by 230% and prototypes built in several weeks saving 3-4 weeks in lead time.  UL and FCC certifications were conducted to ensure testing compliance and approval. A production ready design was delivered for manufacturing.

Menehune Hat Clip

go pro accessory

Developed for a team of young entrepreneurs, this GoPro accessory can replace over a dozen mounts for your GoPro, iPhone, audio recorder & lights with a simple to use, compact and hands-free mount.

The concept was first developed for Startup Weekend Honolulu 2015 where the idea needed to be developed in only 54 hours.  The initial concept was to have a clip that could attach a Go Pro camera to the front of your hat for hands free video action shots. Using our 3D Design process, we were able to take the initial idea and develop a functional design.  Several factors needed to be accounted for throughout the design phase.  Since the team only had 54 hours to design and produce a prototype, 3D Printing was the perfect fit.  Several versions of the prototype were produced in a short period of time that allowed the team to test and conduct customer validation studies.

Using our design and 3D Printing process, we were able to not only save thousands of dollars in prototyping costs, but reduced development time from weeks to just days. The cost savings by using 3D Printing allowed the team to make several versions which were validated through the customer discovery process and led to the final production ready design.

FOG Safe

More coming Soon!

Created to help consumers become more environmentally safe, the FOG Safe product will reduce the amount of oil and grease that gets disposed of and ultimately reduce the amount of oil waste that makes it into landfills, gardens, water sources, streams, and oceans.

Using our design and 3D Printing process, prototype molds were created to produce a low volume quantity for final testing and marketing integration.  Using 3D Printed molds compared to traditional molding materials saved the customer more than $8,000 in tooling costs and reduced development time from months to weeks.

By using our industrial design process, NS Designs was able to visualize their design concept that would include all of the features they were looking for. After the initial design sketches were produced, design elements were transferred into a 3D design that would eventually be used to create a prototype for beta and market testing.

Value of 3D Printing

Summary

3D Printing or commonly known as Additive Manufacturing is an advanced process that build parts utilizing a wide array of materials that range from plastic to metal and even food. It is a revolutionary way to manufacture items and is drastically changing the manufacturing industry.

Comparison

3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing

3D Printing or commonly known as Additive Manufacturing is a process that builds parts using material that applies successive layers until the entire part is built.

Subtractive Manufacturing

Conventional manufacturing process such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) to remove volume from a block of material.  This process is used for both prototype, low volume and high volume production parts and can produce parts with high precision and tolerance.

Subtractive Manufacturing is somewhat limited by not being able to produce parts with undercuts areas or features with extreme curvatures.

Value of 3D Printing

3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing makes is possible to produce your design as is.  With the use of support materials and advanced layering methods, these parts can be produced with undercuts and curvatures.  In addition to the benefit of being able to produce whatever is designed, the 3D Printing process in some or most cases is more economical than CNC machining.  With a 3D Printer in house, prototyping time can be reduced from days to hours, producing parts quicker and more cost effectively.

3D Innovations has been fantastic. They have basically taken what was a concept in our head to an actual product ready to sell. They really went above and beyond our expectations of improving the design. They recommended little tweaks to our product to make sure its function was at its maximum efficiency. The time and quality of 3D Innovations surpassed our expectations. Their speed and quality is unlike any other we’ve seen before. We would definitely use 3D Innovations again! The amazing part is that the computer drawing is EXACTLY what the prototype turned out to look like. So we are able to save money and time knowing that what we see on the computer is what we will get manufactured. This helped us adjust the product accordingly without having to make multiple prototypes to get exactly what we wanted. This process and technology probably saved us hundreds, if not thousands of dollars
