Our President and Chief 3D Printing Officer, Collin Kobayashi, was a participant at the Hawaii STEM Conference over the past weekend and below is his summary from the event…

Hawaii STEM Conference“The 2014 STEMWorks Conference included over 300 students from 15+ schools across the state.  With breakout sessions from 3D Design to Game Design, students were exposed to many industry technologies and got opportunities to learn about them from experts.  The conference also included onsite design competitions which included Digital Media, Game Design, 3D Design (Product Design) and Video Design.  Students were given tasks for each competition and were required to produce content according to the specifications given.

Guest speakers included a mapping expert from National Geographic, Economic Development leader, and former technology student turned entrepreneur.  They shared their knowledge and expertise, providing insight on the importance of technology and the various applications available.

All in all, it was another great event that showcased the STEM projects and activities going on in the state and collaborative effort in providing opportunities to our future workforce.”

Hawaii STEM Conference

The annual Hawaii STEM Conference is almost here! We are thrilled to be a partner again this year for such a wonderful event!

At this year’s conference 3D Innovations will be hosting several breakout sessions covering areas of 3D Design and 3D Printing. (To view the entire list of breakout sessions please click here.)

In addition to these breakout sessions, 3D Innovations will be hosting a Design Competition, where students will be given a design task to create a design based on specific requirements. They will have most of Friday and Saturday to complete their designs. Each team will then  present their final design solutions to a panel of judges for review.

Each year this conference becomes larger and reaches even more students in Hawaii. The turnout for this 5th annual Hawaii STEM Conference is sure to be extraordinary and we look forward to sharing our passion for STEM education with all of these young minds. Hope to see you there!

Further conference information can be found on the official website.

HI Growth Entrepreneurs’ Day 2014

March 6, 2014

HI Growth Entrepreneurs’ Day

This past Wednesday, March 5th, marked the second annual HI Growth Entrepreneurs’ Day at the Hawaii State Capital. The purpose of this day is to voice the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship for the future of Hawaii’s economy. It is a day where State lawmakers and entrepreneurs come together to discuss not only legislature but what the future can look like for the Aloha state with continued support and a focus on innovation.

The HI Growth Initiative – a $6 million comprehensive investment program that represents a bold new approach to reinvigorate state efforts to fuel an innovation economy – was subsequently passed by the legislature, in part to the collective voice of Hawaii’s entrepreneurial community.

Collin Kobayashi, our President & Chief 3D Officer, was at the event this year and had some great positive feedback to share…

With a large turnout of small businesses and entrepreneurs, the State Capitol was filled with enthusiasm and innovation to showcase to our state legislators.  The event provided a great opportunity to network with others, as well as learn about new developments in the entrepreneurial world.

People were excited to share information about their products and services. A common topic that was a center for discussion was how past and potential laws are affecting small business activity in Hawaii.  This event provided a great opportunity to get direct feedback from law makers and to provide them with an entrepreneurs point of view.

All in all, I thought that it was a good event for entrepreneurs to come out and showcase their talents and to let the legislature know that innovation is a continuing and growing part of Hawaii’s economy.

We look forward to not only this event next year but hopefully more events like this in which local entrepreneurs can come together and support one another.
